Lake Tekapo Petting Zoo
Come visit our petting Zoo and feed our farm animals. We provide food with every entry for you to hand feed the animals and you can bottle feed our pet lambs and take photos with them!

Our family has farmed this land since 1928 and we love sharing our home with visitors from all over the world.
If you're looking for a hands-on animal experience then come and say hello to our farmyard favorites. Pet and feed our Merino Sheep, Kune Kune Pigs, Lambs, Alpacas, Calf and rabbits. Learn their names and personalities and let our friendly staff teach you about the habits of each animal and explain how we care for them.
Lake Tekapo Petting Zoo is located on the original grounds of the historic Mt John Homestead and Farm Yard, a 5-10 minute walk from the village center.
The admission price includes animal feed and additional feed can be purchased for $10 per bag. Bottle feeding is done at 9.00am, 2.00pm, & 7.00pm daily. Please let a staff member know if you would like to join in.
To ensure that our petting zoo experience is fun and safe for our guests and animals please read the following:
Active Supervision: Children must be supervised by an adult at all times whilst interacting with our animals.
Don't Run: Please don't run near to, or chase our animals.
No Dogs: Dogs are not allowed in, or near our petting zoo. They are allowed in the car park but MUST be on a lead.
Please Keep Noise Down: Please don't shout at our animals. If noise levels are kept low it ensure a better environment for guests and our furry friends.
No Drones: Drones are banned in Lake Tekapo due to our local airport. They also scare our animals.
Strictly No Smoking Or Vaping: Thank you
No Outside Food: Our animals have set diets, please don't bring your own food for them.

Here's a possible review for a petting zoo: "I went there with my son and my husband and we had a blast there. My son loved getting up close and personal with the friendly animals. The petting zoo was well-maintained, clean, and the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. The variety of animals was great, and everyone enjoyed feeding and petting them. A perfect spot for families or animal lover.

Average experience
My fiancé and I didn’t enjoy this as much as we hoped, we thought it was more of a self guided tour and we were mainly there to see the alpacas. The tour leader was very “up her self” with her getting photos down of herself. It was just a very bizarre experience. However for the price it was okay, and the drive there was beautiful.

Richtig schön
Es ist ein übersichtlicher Streichelzoo bei dem man die kleinen Kälber, Schafe und die Alpakas streicheln kann. Außerdem leben noch Hühner und Schweine in dem Zoo. Joy hat die Führung geleitet und uns einiges zu den Tieren erzählt. Wir haben von ihr etwas Futter bekommen, um die Tiere zu füttern und sie hat am Ende von jedem viele Fotos und Videos gemacht, so dass für jeden was dabei ist. Ich würde es auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen :)
